Roulette: Interesting Facts
We’ve talked about a lot of strategies and tips, but there are several interesting facts we haven’t covered yet. Roulette is a very exciting game that is also popular among casino players. The game actually dated back to 1655 when a French scientist Blaise Pascal created roulette wheel as a perpetual motion machine. Not long after, the game moved to French casinos and began its journey to be one of the most popular casino games.
If you count the numbers in roulette, you will see that the total for all Roulette numbers is 666. This has its own interesting story as well. A legend says that in 1842 Francois and Luis Blanc traded their souls in exchange for the secret of roulette after opening their casino in Monte Carlo.
The game was brought to America in the 1800’s, where it soon made its way to be the most popular casino game among those who loved to play with luck. Roulette is indeed purely driven by chances, and a lot of people found this trait appealing. As American casinos want to get higher edge, they added the additional 00. This 00 alone increases house advantage substantially.
Although American roulette is considered more profitable for casinos, players still want to play the European — or original — version of the game with single 0. That is why even US-based casinos still operate European roulette on their gambling floors.
One of the most famous roulette bets was made by Ashley Revell in 2004. After selling everything he got, he placed $135,000 on Red and the spin landed him a red number of 7. He won $270,600 in total.
